TSJ DEEP DIVE
Too good to be true?
Food can be ROUGH on the budget, especially here in Seaport where we’re already fighting those rent battles. What’s the solution? Enter a cute, little green app that helps you save money on food! We promise - this isn’t an April Fool’s joke…

Too Good To Go (TGTG) is an app that connects restaurants with excess food to customers who are looking to save some money on food while also lessening their environmental footprint. Has there ever been a more win-win situation?!
TGTG was founded in Denmark in 2015 and hit our beautiful American shores back in 2020. Every morning, a bunch of food offers from participating restaurants release on the app. These offers represent large amounts of food that a restaurant failed to sell the day before. Users are then able to place their orders against this existing inventory of offers. The most common offer on TGTG is their “surprise bag,” which consists of a random assortment of items from a restaurant. Just imagine…grabbing an entire bag full of your favorite cafe’s unsold pastries from the day before. Sure - they’re not the most fresh thing in the world, but in the world of butter, salt, and sugar, who cares?
According to TGTG, 1/3 of all food is wasted! They also conducted a survey that found that ~85% of Boston residents are concerned about climate change but don’t recognize that food waste is an important environmental contributor.
There are currently more than 250 businesses on the app, with big names like Eataly and Render Cafe participating, so make sure to try it out! Just make sure to check the app early in the day before all of the offers are gone! TGTG bags are in high demand!
That’s it for today, Seaport gang. We dare you to forward this email to FIVE of your favorite Bostonian friends.
Sincerely,
TSJ
