TSJ DEEP DIVE
Thrifty, flirty, and thriving

We all know thrifting is super hot right now, and the data backs it up! 85% of Americans have bought or sold pre-owned items over this past year according to the Wall Street Journal. The team here at TSJ wants to make sure you’re not the only person at Cisco this spring wearing *ugh* new clothes, so here are five tips for thrifting in Boston as you build out your springtime wardrobe…

  1. Don't have high expectations (lol) - Thrifting can be hit or miss. Especially when half the inventory is going to be DunKings tracksuits.

  2. Go early - Avoid the crowds, especially in an up and at ‘em area like Boston. The good stuff is the first to go…

  3. Thrift at the beginning of the week - Most Seaport residents are in their work era and only have time to drop off their clothes on the weekend, and thrift stores generally 1-2 days to process new inventory.

  4. Donate for that discount - Always check to see if the thrift store offers any incentivizing discounts for donations. Buffalo Exchange will buy clothes from you, giving you either 25% of their selling price in cash, or 50% in store credit.

  5. Avoid Saturdays - Saturdays are universally the busiest day at thrift stores. Avoid at all costs!

The Seaport’s local Goodwill store is calling your name.

The closest Goodwill to Seaport is located at 470 West Broadway and is rated a tremendous 4.1 stars out of 5! We’ll wrap things up with a few trivia questions…

  1. How many Goodwills operate in America?

  2. How many views does Thrift Shop by Mackelmore have on Youtube?

  3. What year did the Salvation Army start?

  4. Where was Goodwill founded?

Answers below. Now get out there, and thrift!

TSJ, coffee, and a view

Let’s be vulnerable here for a second. We only received one reader picture after last week’s incredible newsletter, which hurt our feelings…BUT the one picture we did receive was absolutely fire.

Consider this a formal cry for help and attention: reply to this email with a picture of you enjoying Boston’s greatest neighborhood, and we’ll make sure you’re featured in next week’s TSJ.

What a shot! Submitted by TSJ reader Quentin L.
