RESTAURANT HIGHLIGHT
We interviewed Luca from Mecha Noodle Bar!

The TSJ staff is full of hard-hitting, capital “J” Journalists. As such, we interviewed Luca Colonna, the District Manager at Mecha Noodle Bar Seaport for this week’s Restaurant Highlight. In addition to offering some great behind-the-scenes insights to one of our favorite spots in Seaport, Luca was kind enough to offer every reader of TSJ a free boba drink with any food purchase! Limited to one per guest. Head on over to Mecha Noodle Bar ASAP to secure this ridiculously high-value TSJ perk.

TSJ: Mecha’s mission is to serve local communities while providing Asian comfort food and paying it forward. Can you tell us how you're putting this mission into action in Seaport?

Luca: We've worked with a Massachusetts charity recently, and every month we select small, impactful charities to support. We donate $0.50 for every bowl of ramen sold, averaging around $20,000 per month for charities. While we haven't initiated any Seaport-specific programs yet, we plan to do more in the future!

TSJ: Why did Mecha Noodle Bar decide to open up a location in Seaport?

Luca: Seaport is such a new, fresh neighborhood. That’s where we like to be as a business. We like to grow and develop alongside a neighborhood and become a staple for the residents that live there. All of the exciting growth, companies, developments, it’s all very energizing, and we love to be a part of that.

TSJ: Can you share any unique operational challenges you've faced since opening the Seaport location?

Luca: Finding and retaining a strong team is a common challenge across our industry as a whole. At Mecha Noodle Bar, once we have the right people, we focus on fostering growth, coaching, and providing opportunities within the company. I’d say Seaport is off to a great start on this front; the team we have in place is world-class.

TSJ: Why should our readers dine at Mecha Noodle Bar tonight?

Luca: Where to begin! Whether you’re looking for great food, a great vibe, or great people, Mecha is the place for you. Our food is amazing, our ingredients are fresh, our price points are extremely reasonable, and our vibe is unbeatable. We appeal to a wide range of people and it all comes together beautifully inside our Seaport restaurant. Come check us out!

SEAPORT FACTS
Speaking of tea, can’t we all just get oolong?

The answer is no. We can’t get oolong. Because the British suck(ed). And the Seaport District boasts a rich historical legacy of dunking on them. Notably when it served as the backdrop for the iconic Boston Tea Party.

Even more notable? The Seaport served as a filming location for several scenes in the 2006 movie "The Departed." Check out this recent interview that Martin Scorsese did with GQ (bleh!) where he broke down his most iconic films (skip to 8:41 for the good part).

We hope this first issue of The Seaport Journal has whet your appetite for all the amazing things happening in the district! We’re trying to grow The Seaport Journal before Big Newspaper realizes Seaport is the greatest spot in Boston, so please: help us get to our first 1,000 readers! Forward this email to friends, spam your parents with this link, and post about TSJ on your Reddit page.

Stay tuned for more updates, events, and insights that will keep you connected to the pulse of the Seaport.

See you next Monday,
